WHAT IS IPL?
IPL is when light is applied to the surface of the skin, targeting melanin. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the root. As the light is absorbed, the root and most of the hair shaft are heated, destroying the part that produces the hair.
At any one time, not all hair follicles are ‘active’, and only 'active' hair follicles can be affected by the treatment. ‘Inactive’ hair follicles can be treated as they become ‘active’ over time, but the treatment will not affect them in their 'inactive' stage. For IPL treatments, an average of 8–10 treatments are required to remove most visible hair. Treatment is dependent on the patient skin type. The area to be treated should be clean shaven. Treatment sessions are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart.
WHO CAN HAVE IPL?
Certain skin conditions, health irregularities, and medications can impact whether it is safe for us to treat a person to receive a light based hair removal treatment. Photo-sensitizing medications, or damage to the skin are contraindications to treatment. We will not be able to treat anyone with sunburn, regular sun tans or fake/spray tan applied to the skin. Our IPL and device gets best results on patients with darker hair who have light to medium skin tones.
OUR MACHINE

Ellipse are a top of the range company with an international reputation for advanced laser and Intense Pulsed Light (I²PL) technology, as well as impeccable quality. Our machine uses Intense Pulsed Light to achieve long-lasting hair removal. It also uses modern Selective Waveband Technology – this technology ensures that only light with the correct characteristics (wavelengths) reaches the client’s skin making the treatment safe and effective. Today SWT is commonly referred to as laser although strictly speaking it is not. |  |
